Microsoft’s OWA Offers Outlook Support for the iPad
If you’re already a Microsoft Office user and have become reliant on Microsoft Outlook when it comes to managing your emails, contacts, calendars, and reminders, you have a variety of options for important or syncing Outlook-related data so you can access it from your iPad.
The Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Reminders apps that come preinstalled with iOS 7 (and iOS 8), for example, allow you to import Outlook data, and then keep app-specific data synchronized between your tablet, smartphone, and PC or Mac computer(s).
The drawback to this option is that instead of having all of your data within a single app (Outlook), it becomes accessible using four separate iPad apps. Another option, however, is to use Microsoft’s own OWA for iPad app on your iOS mobile device. This option has both advantages and drawbacks.
A Paid Subscription to Office 365 or Microsoft Exchange Online is Required
To utilize OWA for iPad, which is available for free from the App Store, you need to be either a paid subscriber to Microsoft’s Office 365 for Business or Microsoft Exchange Online. In other words, if you have a stand-alone version of Office (or Outlook) running on your PC or Mac, this won’t work with the app.
