Ten Moved or Changed Features in Word 2007
Along with a fresh new interface, you’ll find many features have been altered and/or moved in Word 2007. If you’ve used Office 2003 or previous versions for some time, these changes can be annoying and overwhelming. To help you through the transition, this tutorial discusses ten of the major changes. Let’s get started.
#1: Default Formatting
Once your mind gets passed the drastic overhaul of the user interface, you’ll notice the default font and paragraph formatting has been changed. Instead of
Times New Roman font at size 12
Word 2007 uses the
Calibri font at size 11.
Plus, line spacing is set at a bit more than single spaced and paragraphs now have spacing between them. Personally, I like the change. However, if you don’t, you can change these default settings.
To modify the Normal style, the one that’s used for the default formatting settings, right-click it from the Styles Gallery on the Home tab of the Ribbon and choose Modify. First you should choose the New Documents Based on This Template radio button, as pointed out in Figure 1.
Figure 1 Click this option to modify the default font and formatting.
Then make the desired changes to the font settings. To change the line and/or paragraph spacing, click the Format button in the lower-left corner and select Paragraph. When you’re done modifying the style, click OK. If you use Word’s headings or other styles, you’ll probably want to modify at least their font type so they’ll match your body formatting.
