Melissa targeted Microsoft Office documents (specifically, Microsoft Word). These viruses target Office documents. The EICAR test is used to verify the functionality of antivirus software. It is basically a signature that all participating vendors recognize. Encrypted viruses are similar to polymorphic viruses but can change how they are stored on the disk. This form of malware can make use of a cryptographic key.
