High Availability

Unlike traditional businesses that have some planned downtime for doing maintenance, e-business downtime essentially equates to "out of business" or "lost revenue" time. The reliance of e-businesses on the availability of the Internet is huge; DBAs have to work around this problem. Downtime should be really avoided because not only does the business lose money while the system is down, but the loss extends even after the system is up and running—in terms of loss of customer confidence and customer alienation.
