Conclusions
Now what? The question remains, if the perfect JOB came along (for example, the Director of Training for a major university), would I leave my life as an IT contractor? It would have to be an offer I couldn't refuse. God knows it took me close to 43 years to find the best job in the world. I truly love what I do and the way I do it. Why? I am a contractor. What I lose in security as an IT contractor I gain in flexibility and freedom. In my mind, there is no trade-off. I would encourage anyone changing careers, or anyone in the midst of a layoff to consider life as an IT contractor. It is not the perfect career for everyone. It has its disadvantages, but the advantages are overpowering. I look forward to hearing your opinion either on the InformIT discussion board or by e-mail. You can reach me at wyrostekw@msn.com.
