As you would expect, your Amazon Fire phone is a powerful e-reader, with features based on Amazon's popular Kindle. Lonzell Watson, author of My Amazon Fire Phone, gives us a tour of the powerful Kindle Books app, one of the Fire's biggest attractions.

Your Amazon Fire phone provides a great outlet for you to enjoy books. The preinstalled Books app is a stylish e-reader that enables you to browse, purchase, download, and read eBooks—all from your phone. The Fire also comes preloaded with the Audiobooks app for you to view and listen to audiobooks.

Both the Books app and the Audiobooks app enhance your experience with reading aids such as Whispersync and Immersion Reading, so that you never lose your place while reading or listening to the same book on multiple devices. The apps give you options to adjust font size, highlight important text, change the background color behind your book text, and more. I’ll discuss these features, as well as showing you how to take advantage of the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library and Kindle MatchBook services, becoming a savvier book shopper.

The Books app on your Amazon Fire phone lets you satisfy your love of reading by browsing over a million books. As a Fire owner, your library card is your Amazon Prime membership, so you don’t need to sign up for anything else.

Use the Books apps to browse the Kindle Bookstore for the hottest new releases and take advantage of some of the offers and features that your Amazon Fire phone and the Amazon Bookstore afford you as a customer.

Take Advantage of Kindle MatchBook

If you buy a print book from Amazon.com, you might be able to buy the matching Kindle edition of the same book—for $2.99 USD or less. Some textbooks are available for $9.99 or less. To see if a title is part of the Kindle MatchBook program, go to the Amazon.com page for the printed book or the Kindle book, go to the Kindle book detail page, and look for a Kindle MatchBook listing.

Buy the printed book, and then buy the Kindle version for $2.99 or less. Use the free Kindle Reading app to enjoy the Kindle version on your PC, Mac, iPad, or Android tablet. Since your Fire doesn’t automatically filter books that qualify for the MatchBook program, go online to Amazon.com and filter for books that qualify. Past purchases of print editions may also qualify, so be sure to check.
