Abstract
In this article, we describe workload migration, including migration best practices, kinds of applications, and challenges; migrating data; and tools for workload migration. We also provide steps for case studies that illustrate the use of concrete techniques: migrating a WebSphere application with wsadmin and Domain Name Service (DNS), synchronizing files for a database application with rsync, migrating with WebSphere profiles and administration scripting, and X.509 certificate management. The target audience for this article is developers, system administrators, and application owners.
