3.9 Acknowledgments
Acknowledgments are due to Alan Wills, who collaborated with me circa 1992 on some early object modeling and user interface design integration, thereby helping to establish the path to Idiom; Dr. Katsura Kawakami, who gave me time to develop the first version of Idiom while I was employed at Matsushita's Tokyo Research Laboratory; Stephanie Wilson, who was largely responsible for initiating the redesign of Idiom by pointing out that the earlier version of Idiom was largely a specification-based approach that did not adequately support the process of user interface design; and Mary Beth Rosson, who made me aware of the possibilities of object extraction from scenarios [Rosson 1997]. The Department of Computer Science at the University of Manchester supported me by providing me with office space, colleagues to talk to, and computational facilities during a series of honorary positions. Cliff Jones and Brian Warboys are particularly to be thanked for their help in facilitating my appointment to those positions. Finally, John Artim, Larry Constantine, and Nuno Nunes kindly commented on the contents of this chapter.
