Microsoft introduced the Sidebar and Desktop Gadgets with Windows Vista. Though the Sidebar doesn't exist in Windows 7, you can still add gadgets directly onto your desktop. They can, for example, give you a quick view of your email and schedule, system stats, and social networking sites. Some gadgets include shortcuts and time-saving features, while some just provide entertainment.

We're going to review eleven different gadgets in the following sections.

Twitter Explorer

If you are a regular tweeter, you might want to check Twitter Explorer (see Figure 1). It displays the tweets of all your friends, colleagues, and family.

You can easily view user details, open links, reply, or retweet. You can post updates directly from the gadget flyouts. It can also show you posts where you're mentioned and reply tweets.
