Author Review

It is important to note that each of our publishing groups handles the workflow slightly differently, and the following information is a generalized description of the editing process. For specific information about your experience, contact your editor.

After the chapters have been reviewed by your book's Development Editor (DE), Technical Editor (TE), and Copy Editor (CE), the assigned Project Editor (PE) will send you, the author, the reviewed/edited files that contain all editors' comments/queries for normal author review (AR). The PE will specify the time frame for you to complete and return each chapter from AR.

AR is your main/last chance to improve your chapters as you'll see as well as respond to all editors' comments/queries all at once by incorporating software-related changes, making any necessary revisions (including recapturing/adding/deleting figures or updating the source code), and adding more topical coverage or rewriting any content before we publish your book. Therefore, it's extremely important that you value the AR opportunity — review each chapter carefully and respond to all editors' queries.

After you have completed the AR on a chapter, you return your AR'd/finalized chapter to the PE, who will notify your DE for post-AR review and approval. Note if you fail to adequately address any editor's queries, your DE will contact you directly or send your AR'd file/chapter back to you for clarification or further responses/revisions. To help ensure the best turnaround time on AR, please check through your completed AR'd chapter to ensure that all queries are answered before you send it back to the PE as the finalized version.
