Watts S. Humphrey is known worldwide as the author of several influential books on the software development process and software process improvement, including the Addison-Wesley best-seller Managing the Software Process. As a Fellow at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), he provided the vision and early leadership to create the Capability Maturity Model (CMM), the widely-used standard for assessing an organization's software development capability. His current work focuses on process improvement for individuals (PSP) and teams (TSP). He is a recipient of the National Medal of Technology. William R. Thomas is Senior Editor and Manager at SEI.
