David Bandel

David Bandel earned a master of aviation management degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1989 at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He retired from 20 years in the Army in February 1996. While on active duty, David learned many of the basics of Unix[md]he worked on DEC 5000s running Ultrix, and SUN SparcStations running SunOS 4. He has worked on a variety of systems and architectures, including Sparc Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, and SCO OpenServer. In 1993, David began dabbling with Linux, a hobby that quickly grew on him. Currently, David is semiretired and is living in the Republic of Panama, where he writes, does Linux/Unix consulting, and works on his farm. He co-authored QUE Special Edition Using Caldera OpenLinux and Linux Security Toolkit. He also writes a regular column, “Focus on Software,” now entering its third year in the Linux Journal.
