Laser Disc predates DVD format video by many years (it first appeared in the consumer space in 1978). Video quality is on par with SVCD, but not quite as good as DVD. Audio was originally analog, but advanced to using Dolby and DTS surround in the early 1990s before being killed off by the popularity of DVD.
