D: Consider Two-Way Radios
Issue: In addition to wireless phones, consider adding other backup systems to maintain critical command-and-control communications. Two-way radios are especially useful in situations where there may be competition for wireless frequencies, or simply as an additional way of keeping in touch. They’re cheap and have up to a 12-mile range these days, so they’re great for campus environments. In addition to being inexpensive, two-way radios require no licensing.
Action: Acquire, maintain, and practice working with a sufficient number of two-way radios for use in an emergency.
