P: Keeping the EMT Apprised

Issue: An effective EMT must know what’s going on among the various recovery teams to be in true control of the recovery process. Business resumption is a lot more than just telecommunications. People will be fetching tapes and equipment, coordinating with local authorities, making statements to the media, rushing through purchase orders... and, yes, setting up emergency telecommunications.

Action: In your plan, include specific details of telecommunications responsibilities for supporting the EMT. For example, include statements like this: "Within 90 minutes of disaster notification, the EMT should receive a faxed, written, or verbal report from each team, both onsite and at the recovery center."
