Apple Remote Desktop

In a recent article I discussed the ability to use Remote Desktop as a deployment solution. The install and file copy features make deploying applications and configuration files (or files for users) extremely easy to do, particularly with the newly-released Remote Desktop 3. It also provides a simple solution for ensuring that all needed operating system updates and virus definition files are up to date on all workstations. Remote Desktop does not provide a solution for full workstation deployments by itself. Also rolling out applications that do not use Installer package files can require extra steps (either creating packages yourself or copying the Installer files to the workstation and then performing the install using the Control command).
