How Much Will It Cost?

If you've been adding things up as you've read along, you have a wide range of numbers in front of you right now. At the low end, you can actually put together a home theater system from separate components for as little as $1,000, including the television. (That's for a smallish direct-view TV, of course.) At the high end, the sky's the limit; I've seen home theater systems that cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Personally, I think you should set your total budget (including the television) for at least $3,000; and, for even better performance, the $5,000–10,000 range. But whatever your budget, make sure that you get the best components for the money—and then sit back and enjoy your new home theater system!
