Info Scripts

These two scripts display information in two different ways. Current Date & Time accesses the date, stores it in an AppleScript variable, and displays it in a dialog. This script can serve as a template for storing data in a variable and for using a dialog. Hour 13, "Interacting with Users," is devoted to this type of functionality.

The second script, Font Sampler, displays a standard sentence in each of the installed fonts. (It was shown in Figure 2.2 in Hour 2.) In this case, AppleScript asks another application—TextEdit—to do the data display. It can be used as a template for locating fonts and for setting text and style information in word processing applications.
