Buying and Installing DDR DIMMs

The previous sections described some scenarios for installing different DIMM configurations. Most of that information also applies to DDR-DIMMs. The removal and installation procedure is the same and you go through similar steps to figure out your memory configuration. Note the following:

  • DDR DIMM modules are not interchangeable with standard DIMMS.

  • DDR DIMMS can be 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1.0 GB, but Table 6.1 defines what your system supports.

  • All DDR DIMMS are 184-pin, 2.5 volt.

  • Synchronous memory access is at the clock rate of 100 MHz or 133 MHz for all HP motherboards at the time of this writing.
