Giving Respectful Feedback

If you're also the supervisor of the person you're coaching, you'll have to give and receive feedback in ways that maintain the integrity of the relationship but fully address real issues.

We think of feedback as "navigational information," designed to help people navigate performance situations, and prefer to substitute "reinforcing" and "redirecting" as forms of feedback for the emotionally-charged terms "positive" and "negative/difficult." Everyone needs some navigational help every now and again.
