Scalability

The Internet makes your business accessible to a large number of users, and potentially the whole world becomes your customer base. But this benefit places a tremendous amount of pressure on DBAs to configure and optimize the system so that it can handle this increased load. It's not easy to determine peak and off-peak times and optimize the system using this knowledge—no matter what the day or time is locally, somewhere else in the world it's "business as usual," and someone likely wants to do business with you. The large number of database connections and sessions that result from increased concurrent connections can pose a big challenge.
