So When Should I Use Another Language?

You probably expect me to promote Java as all things to all programmers, but there are plenty of situations where other languages are more suitable. If short startup times for interactive programs are vital, C++ may be a better choice. C is frequently preferred for systems programming (drivers and kernel work). It may make sense to stick with Visual Basic if you have a large base of VB legacy code and a significant body of in-house knowledge.
