Operating the VPN

Once the VPN is operational, other workflows come into play. Following are some typical operations that the service provider executes during the VPN lifecycle:

  • Adding sites to a VPN

  • Removing sites from a VPN

  • Creating more core LSPs

  • Updating existing core LSPs—for example, adding more reserved bandwidth

  • Deleting and replacing core LSPs

  • Handling faults that affect the VPN service

End users can increasingly initiate VPN-related management workflows as part of customer network management. This function can include facilities that allow VPN users to check connectivity, verify that service-level agreements are being met, and even increase allocated core bandwidth.
