Essentials of BPI

Let's look at what constitutes BPI technology. There's no better place to start than to dispel any misconception about BPI. For starters, despite its name, BPI is not about integration. Unlike Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), BPI products do not operate at a physical integration level. When we speak of BPI technology employed to "integrate processes," we are actually referring to the expression, execution, and inspection of a logical workflow. This workflow may ultimately involve the integration of data, but it is first and foremost a series of managed, interconnected business activities. These activities may have no necessary implications for data integration whatsoever.

How does BPI actually work? It can be best unpacked as we examine the primary functional layers of BPI—process modeling, process management, and process analysis.
