Where User Data Is Stored

When you create a user account in Windows Vista, a folder for that user is created in the C:\Users folder. (Although only administrators can see the folders for other users.) As you can see in Figure 9.10, when you have multiple users on a system, there are multiple folders in the Users folder—including a single Public folder for all shared files on this computer.

Within each user's folder are a series of folders common to all such user folders—Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Downloads, and the like. This is how Vista stores the documents for each user. (For example, each user's digital photo files are stored in their respective Pictures folders.) You can manage the files for any user by going to that user's folders within the Users folder.
