Older Web Browsers

Style sheetsare only supported by Netscape Navigator version 4 or later and Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3 or later. Older browsers, as well as many HTML viewers built into word processors or other business software applications, simply ignore the <link /> tag and display the page without any special formatting. Figure 16.5, for example, shows how the HTML from Figure 16.4 looks in Netscape Navigator 3.

You should always test your style sheet–enhanced pages without the style sheet to make sure they still look acceptable. Use an older browser, or just temporarily change the name of the style sheet so the browser can't find it.
