Installing a Printer
You can easily install a printer to work with all of your Windows applications. Windows includes many drivers for various manufacturers' computers. To install a printer, you need your Windows CD-ROM or a disk containing printer drivers that came with your printer.
To install a printer, perform the following steps:
- Choose Settings, Printers from the Start menu. The Printers window appears.
- Double-click the Add Printer icon to display the Add Printer Wizard dialog box. Click Next to begin installing a new printer.
- Choose whether to install a local printer or a network printer and then choose the Next button.
- Choose a port if you are installing a local printer.
- In the next Add Printer Wizard dialog box, choose the Manufacturer of your printer, such as HP (Hewlett-Packard), and then the model of the printer, such as DeskJet 722C as shown in Figure 12.1.
Figure 12.1 Choose the printer you want to install.
- If you have a disk from the printer's manufacturer that contains Windows drivers, insert the disk into the disk drive and click the Have Disk button; alternatively, insert your Windows Setup CD-ROM and click the Next button. If you don't have the drivers, try visiting the printer manufacturer's Web site or the Microsoft Web site at www.microsoft.com to search for the printer driver you need. Better yet, if you need drivers, you should contact your network administrator or help desk.
- Follow the directions onscreen. When Windows finishes setting up the printer, it returns to the Printers window.
