Assigning Passwords to Screen Savers

Your system administrator has undoubtedly configured your workstation so that you need a password to log on and work on your computer. Another useful way to use your password is to use it with your screen saver. When you leave your desk, your screen saver activates and in order to return to the desktop and stop the screen saver, your password is needed.

To set up a screen saver password:

  1. Choose Settings, Control Panel from the Start menu.
  2. When the Control Panel opens, double-click the Screen Saver icon. Select a screen saver and click the Password protected box. The Passwords Properties box appears (see Figure 16.1).

  3. When your screen saver is activated, turn it off by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard. You will be prompted to type in your password to unlock it.
