Topics: Certification

If you are either (a) a current information systems security professional; or (b) aspire to be such, then you need to know about Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 8570.

According to the GIAC certification Web site, DoD Directive 8570 "8570 provides guidance and procedures for the training, certification, and management of the DoD workforce conducting Information Assurance functions in assigned duty positions. It also provides guidance on reporting metrics."

Although the content of Directive 8570 only formally affects individuals and/or agencies who have privileged access to DoD information systems, the 8570 standards represent a well-respected skills set, and certification might help your career regardless of your affiliation with the DoD

I will be writing more about the content of DoD 8570 in future blog posts; for now, please feel free to download the official DoD 8570 manual (PDF direct download).
