Conclusion

Although there is absolutely no doubt that EJB 3.0 was based on Hibernate, in fact it was based on all of the top Object/Relational Mapping Tools. This was not a slight toward these tools, but in fact a brilliant move by Sun. Instead of having to learn "yet another completely new but the same tool," developers will have an easy time transitioning over to EJB 3.0 because it is based on the tools that they know and love.
