Alessandro Del Sole, Microsoft MVP for Visual Basic, is well known throughout the global VB community. He is community leader on the Italian VB Tips and Tricks website that serves more than 42,500 developers, and a frequent contributor and blogger at MSDN’s Visual Basic Developer Center. He is the author of six books about .NET development with Visual Basic.
Fully updated for Windows 8 support, .NET 4.5, and Windows Phone development, this is the most comprehensive, practical reference to modern programming with Visual Basic 2012. Written by Visual Basic MVP Alessandro Del Sole, a long-time leader of the global VB community, this book illuminates the core of the VB language and demonstrates its effective use in many current programming scenarios.
Del Sole covers both Visual Basic 2012 Professional Edition for professional developers and the Express Edition for hobbyists, novices, and students. Writing for VB programmers at all levels of experience, he walks through using VB 2012 for data access, Windows desktop/Windows Phone user interface development, networking, communication, and much more.
For those moving from structured languages—including VB 6—Del Sole offers detailed guidance on building effective object-oriented code. He also demonstrates how to make the most of Microsoft’s updated .NET 4.5 platform to write more robust and powerful software.

Approximately every 18 months I am contacted by the local community college about a potential contract training job. In general a company or organization is looking to make a significant change in the way they perform one or more of their IT functions. In some cases, the company is in a hurry to get rolling and when that is the case the language they want to use is almost always Visual Basic. Therefore, VB is the one language in my repertoire that I never let lapse into a rusty state.Like all other people in IT, when there is the need for an upgrade of one of my skills I want it fast and generally restricted to what is new in the latest iteration. In the area of VB, this book is an excellent solution for this need. While the explanation on the back cover states that it is "for VB programmers at all levels of experience", programming novices will struggle with the more advanced topics such as objects, interfaces, inheritance, generics, iterators, namespaces, LINQ, serialization,...
