Kenneth Hess is the virtualization columnist at Linux Magazine. His column covers all aspects and types of virtualization from desktop to server to cloud. Kenneth has used just about every type of virtualization product available since 1999 and was a beta tester of the original VMware product line. He also writes the Linux blog on DaniWeb and the Cover Your Assets column on Internet.com’s ServerWatch. You’ll also find Kenneth on the air weekly at The Frugal Tech Show’s Frugal Friday. His day job with HP involves virtualization and web hosting at an enterprise level.

Amy Newman has been following the virtualization space since 2001. She has been blogging about it since 2006 in her weekly column, Virtually Speaking. Virtually Speaking provides analysis of news and trends on everything virtual from hypervisors to hardware. The column appears weekly on Internet.com’s Server-Watch. Amy has been managing editor of ServerWatch since 1999 and Enterprise IT Planet since 2009. Prior to that, she was a research editor at Gartner, where she edited and managed the workflow of four monthly research deliverables related to software infrastructure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Many OS's with One Footprint, November 24, 2009

What exactly is virtualization and how will I benefit from it, is the question you may be asking yourself.

This book answers that and gives you a excellent roadmap form preplanning through deployment and finishes with maintenance.

To be able to develop and support my clients, I used a number of machines that matched my clients configurations. I also used removable hard drives to achieve more diversity. It was really a big hassle tracking and keeping OS's current.
I am increasing working with multiple OS's or versions of the same OS's. I like to have the exact environment that I will deploy the applications to.
I happened upon this book and it had clear instructions to plan out virtualizing my developer infrastructure.
The book explains the different methods of virtualization and how they apply. Though it is written more for the enterprise level, it is useful for the small business owner.

This review is from: Practical Virtualization Solutions: Virtualization from the Trenches (Paperback)
A good general book on the subject of virtualization. It's a snapshot of what Virtualization is at the moment and brings the reader up to speed with some basic history and practices that will give you an understanding of what you can use in your company.

Just don't expect to be a grandmaster on the subject, this is more for getting to the beach head, if you want to storm the virtualization bunkers your going to need much heavier books.
