Perfect for beginners / advanced beginners,
This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 On Demand (Paperback)This extremely easy-to-follow book will quickly and painlessly teach you how to use Windows 7' new features with an added bonus of showing you how to use PC computers effectively. The book's style is very similar to that of Scott Kelby's books - well written step-by-step explanation on the left; colorful, high-resolution picture actually showing what the screen looks like so that you can follow the lesson to the right.
Bottom line: if you know nothing about Windows 7, and would like to learn how to use it - this is the book for you. 550+ pages with colorful how-tos for $20? Wow, what a value.
If you are an advanced user who is looking for a book with "hacks" - keep looking.

Windows 7 When You Need It,
This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 On Demand (Paperback)Windows 7 is a complete overhaul of the Windows operating system. Its predecessor, Windows Vista, was very buggy and never really caught on with the consumers. For the most people Windows XP remained the operating system of choice due to its relative simplicity and stability. Windows 7 has, however, finally delivered on the premise of a modern operating system that can be used on a vast variety of hardware. It is a very powerful operating system, and for the most part it is fairly intuitive. However, if you want to make the most out of the experience with your Windows PC, as well as if you want to simplify your workflow, then it would behoove you to invest a bit of your time to familiarize yourself with as many subtleties and features of Windows 7 as you can. However, if you are too busy (and who isn't these days), then you may not want to invest too much time in going through a long-winded book that takes you systematically through all of the aspects of Windows 7. If you just need to... Read more

DISAPPOINTED IN THE BOOK,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 On Demand (Paperback)I do not recommend this book. There are too many differences in its illustrations from what comes up on my screen. Overly simplistic, for a person with little computer skills. Also, if a described action from the book does not work, there is no explanation as to what else one can do. For example, Windows Live photo processing task bar as shown in the book has no relationship to mine at all. (Winbdows 7 Pro purchased August 2011.) Another example, putting two computers on a wireless local area network as described in the book never worked for me, and I have a lot of background. There was just not enough explanation.
