Joshua Engel is a programmer and computer scientist. He is Senior Software Developer for Ontology Works, Inc., where he's using ontologies to help software become more maintainable. He has worked on many large projects, with hundreds of people, spanning decades, and has searched through more source code than he cares to think about.
During his extensive programming career, Joshua has worked with dozens of programming languages and even designed a few of his own. His favorite projects revolve around Java. His book, Programming for the Java Virtual Machine (Addison-Wesley, 1999, ISBN 0-201-30972-6), describes how to translate various languages directly into bytecodes. In his copious spare time he runs marathons, decorates wedding cakes, and acts and directs Shakespeare.
