Janice Winsor

Janice Winsor emigrated to Perth, Western Australia, in January 1998 and now lives a half hour south of Perth on 7 1/2 acres of native bush, where she currently writes books for Sun Microsystems Press. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and has taken courses at San Jose State College, Canada College, California College of Arts and Crafts, and University of California, Santa Cruz.

Previously, Janice worked for The Filoli Information Systems, Sun Microsystems, Fortune Systems, Microvertics Corporation, SRI International, Cornell University, and the University of California, Berkeley. She also has worked as a production potter, under the name Sea Otter Pottery, and once owned and operated Birds of a Feather Art Gallery, where she marketed her paintings, photographs, and pottery.

Janice also has served as a judge for several writing competitions for the Society for Technical Communications, and she was the public relations chair for the American Association for University Women (AAUW). She previously acted as a neighborhood liaison for the local sewer authority in Half Moon Bay, California, and she was involved in planning, design, and negotiation for another California community. Janice also is a counselor, a certified clinical hypnotherapist, and a certified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner.

Janice has written 16 books, including Solaris Advanced System Administrator's Guide, Third Edition (Sun Microsystems Press/Prentice Hall, 2001), Solaris System Administrator's Guide, Third Edition (Sun Microsystems Press/Prentice Hall, 2000), Solaris 8 System Administrator's Reference (Sun Microsystems Press/Prentice Hall, 2000), Solaris 9 Reference (Sun Microsystems Press/Prentice Hall, 2002), and Solaris Management Console Tools, (Sun Microsystems Press/Prentice Hall, 2002).

She has received numerous writing awards from the Society for Technical Communication, including three Awards of Distinction and Best of Category, three Awards of Excellence, three Awards of Merit, and one Award of Achievement.
