Redistributable Font Pack for XNA Game Studio

Overview

These OpenType fonts, created by Ascender Corporation and licensed by Microsoft, are free for you to use in your XNA Game Studio game. You may redistribute these fonts in their original format as part of your game. Note that fonts are licensed and not sold, and that most commercial fonts, and most fonts supplied with Microsoft products such as Windows and Office, are not licensed for redistribution with games or other applications. It is your responsibility to make sure any fonts you include with your games are properly licensed for redistribution.

Using the Fonts

To use these fonts with XNA Game Studio, you must install them in the Windows\Fonts folder on your computer. Follow these steps.

  1. Extract the font files to a temporary folder on your computer. Leave this folder open.
  2. Click the Start Menu, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Under "Classic View", choose the Fonts option. A folder containing your installed fonts will appear.
  4. Click and drag the fonts from the temporary folder into this Fonts folder. This will install the fonts.

You may now access these fonts using the SpriteFont class in XNA Game Studio. See the XNA Game Studio Help topic "How To: Draw Text" to learn how to use the SpriteFont class. When setting up your sprite definition XML file, identify the font you wish to use by name, by referring to the chart above.

Terms of Use

The sample OpenType fonts are supplied under license from Ascender Corporation for use "as is." These fonts implement only a subset of the total features defined by the OpenType font format. They contain the ANSI character set along with OpenType typographic features.
