Just when you thought you knew it all, 5 Stars
I was up all night reading it, and again today. This is the most amazing PHP book for experienced PHP programmers I've ever seen… The author really knows his stuff, and uses best-practices, throughout. Really well thought-out code with a lot to learn from.
The fact that it's all based on the new PHP5 style makes it even better!… For the first time in three years, I feel wonderfully over-my-head with a LOT to learn here in this one amazing book.

The best you can get in the advanced book field, 5 Stars
I have had the pleasure to read through this book, and I need to say that it is a must for those who take PHP seriously.

if you use PHP professionally and need to get that extra mile or scale your PHP to a large site, then this is definitely the book to be buying.

I just received Advanced PHP Programming by George Schlossnagle (that's a mouth
full) from an online shop. I had very high expectations of the book, since everybody
starts to cheer once this book gets mentioned. I instantly started to read and
I'm very happy with the quality and level of the book.
Of course I haven't read the complete book yet, but from what I've read so far this was money well spent.

I figured it would be a good book. I was wrong -- Advanced PHP Programming (APP)
is an outstanding PHP book. I'll even go so far as to say that this is the best
book on PHP ever written… If you use PHP and you haven't yet bought and
read APP, do so now. Right now. If you do serious web development and don't
use PHP, you'll still get a lot out of this book. It's just that good.

The first good book published for PHP5, and an excellent read even for folks
who are still using PHP4…This isn't an ordinary PHP book.

Overall this is one of the most complete books on advanced aspects of developing
applications with PHP. The fact that it also provides detailed information on
methodologies not specific to PHP but which assist in the optimization of Web
applications in general, makes this book also very valuable to those who develop
in languages other than PHP.

There are a lot of bad or at best marginal PHP books out there, and I've bought
my share. This one arrived from Amazon yesterday, and I was riveted to it for
most of the evening. It's a rare PHP book: one that I was very glad I bought.

, I am quite confident in saying that it is the best PHP book that has yet been
written (yes, it is better than my book and even better than Sterling's book.

Finally there's a book about PHP that deals with concepts instead of only hacking
some source code… So if you are using PHP, pat says "Buy this book!".

I would recommend it to anyone serious about developing solutions in PHP, its
not only a classic for PHP programming, but more importantly its a classic on
how to solve the web problem. This book has my highest recommendation - it's
really that that good!

Reading Advanced PHP Programming by George Schlossnagle feels like looking into
the mind of a true PHP guru. I know George has an intimate knowledge of the
PHP internals and Zend engine, and is an expert on PHP performance tuning.
In conclusion, this book is a one of the two best books on PHP i have ever read. The other book is PHP and MySQL Web Development by Luke Welling and Sarah (sic) Thompson, which is an excellent introduction to PHP and MySQL. Both books complement each other. Highly recommended.

Currently reading through Advanced PHP Programming and it's riveting stuff.
It's actually more advanced that i thought it would be, no idea why, but it
is. It covers a lot of stuff that is often passed over or badly implemented.
The text is clear and easy to follow and the examples are all real world, useful
examples.
I've only read about 70% of it so far but i would highly recommend it for
both PHP4 and PHP5 users.

George's book is excellently written and not only covers a great spectrum of PHP Programming but is really good at it.
