Playing .mp3s
Red Hat Linux also comes with several .mp3 audio players. The best player is the xmms client, which features a sophisticated interface and a plethora of features. You can launch this client from a desktop panel menu or from the command line of an X11 terminal window, like this:
# xmms &
Click the Open Tray button (upward-pointing arrow button), and you'll see a select file dialog, as shown in Figure 8.16.

Scroll down with the Shift key held down to select multiple files, or click the Add All Files in Directory button to grab all files for playing. Click OK when finished. If you click the EQ button, you'll see a drop-down equalizer you can use to fine-tune the output sound, as shown in Figure 8.17.

To enable the equalizer, click the On button. You can then drag the vertical slider controls to set your sound. If you press Ctrl+P, you'll also see a custom control panel for loading, enabling, or configuring plug-in sound and light effects modules, as shown in Figure 8.18.

There are many more features to this player. To see additional menus, right-click on the player, then use the various menus that will appear.
