Day 17. Using Java and .NET: SAX

Yesterday, you used Java and the DOM model to work your way through XML documents. Some programmers find the DOM way of doing things pretty complex, however, because it requires us to search out our data in the XML document. Instead of having to go get our data, those programmers say, wouldn't it be easier if that data came to us? That's how the Simple API for XML (SAX) works, as you're going to see today. Today's topics are purposely the same as yesterday's, except today, you're going to do things the SAX way:

  • Loading XML documents into a Java application
  • Parsing XML documents by using Java
  • Searching a document for a particular element
  • Navigating through an XML document by using Java
  • Creating graphical XML browsers by using Java
  • Modifying the XML in a document by using Java
