Workshop

The quiz and exercise questions are designed to test your knowledge of the material covered in this hour. The answers are in Appendix C, "Answers to Quizzes."

Quiz

  1. What is the difference between an administrator account and a guest account?

  2. What can happen if you don't properly shut down Windows XP before you turn off your computer?

  3. What is the difference between closing and minimizing a window?

  4. True or false: When you minimize a window, its taskbar button goes away.

  5. How does a toolbar differ from a window menu?

Exercises

  1. Open the Control Panel by opening the Windows Start menu and then clicking Control Panel. Minimize, maximize, and resize the Control Panel window. Drag the Control Panel (when it's not maximized) to a different location on the screen. Close the window.

  2. Open several windows at once, such as the My Computer, Control Panel, and the Help and Support windows from the Start menu. Notice how Windows XP arranges them. Click on the title bar of any window to bring that window into view and to make it the active window. The other windows remain open, but the active window shows completely.
