  1. What is a legacy device?

  2. What advantage does Plug and Play offer over legacy?

  3. What further advantage does a Plug and Play USB device provide you?

  4. What is a PC or PCMCIA card?

  5. What kind of port, serial or parallel or infrared, do you need to use for the direct cable connection feature?

Exercises

  1. Open your Control Panel, display all the icons there, and open the System window. Click the Device Manager tab and look at all your installed hardware devices. Don't change anything unless you know exactly what to do. Close the System window when you're finished. You can learn a lot about your computer from the Control Panel's System window.

  2. If you have a laptop, create a direct cable connection between your desktop computer and your laptop. Open Windows Explorer to see the connection and to transfer files between the two computers.
