Managing the Recycle Bin

The Recycle Bin is a temporary storage area on your hard disk (drive C:). When you delete a file or folder from your hard drive, Windows 2000 moves it into the Recycle Bin. However, the file or folder still takes up space on the hard disk, since it is essentially moved it to the Recycle Bin. You must empty the Recycle Bin to remove the file or folder from the drive.

This means that you still have a second chance to get that file or folder back before it's gone forever. You can restore it back to its former position from the Recycle Bin.
