Customizing View Columns
When in List View you can customize views by changing the order of the columns, or changing the information contained in the columns. For example, you might want files to display by who created them; then by filename, date, and so forth. Columns settings apply on a folder by folder basis only. This gives you the ability to create customized views for each folder.
To customize the columns for a folder, select the folder and Choose View, Choose Columns from the menu. Figure 8.9 shows the Column Settings dialog box. Select or deselect columns by placing a check mark in the column header. To reorder the columns, select the column you want to move and click the Move Up or Move Down button until the column is in the position you want.
Figure 8.9 Scroll this window to see the many column options for viewing folder contents.
In this lesson, you learned how to change what folders and files appear in the My Computer window and how to open them. You also learned about the menu and toolbars and how to customize the appearance of views. In the next lesson, you'll learn how to manage your files from My Computer.
