Embedding Objects

To embed a file:

  1. Open the document where you want to store the embedded file.
  2. Position your cursor where you want the object to appear.
  3. Depending on the application you're using, the menu command may be Insert , Object or Insert , Picture .
  4. A dialog box appears asking what type of object or what object file you want to embed. Figure 7.5 shows an Insert Object dialog box. Choose Create New to embed an empty object that you can complete from within your document.

    Choose Create from File from the Insert Object dialog box to select a file that you want to incorporate in your document.

  5. Select the type of object or the name of the file and then click OK.

To edit the data in an embedded object, double-click it to open the file in the source application. Make your changes and click the document outside the embedded object selection border.

You can also paste data to embed it in your document:

  1. In the source application, select the data you want.
  2. Choose Edit, Copy to copy it to the Clipboard.
  3. Switch to the destination application and open the document where you want to place the embedded object.
  4. Position your cursor in the document where you want the embedded object to appear.
  5. Choose Edit, Paste Special. The Paste Special dialog box appears.
  6. Select Paste.
  7. From the As box, pick the source from which you copied the data.
  8. If you want to display an icon instead of showing the embedded data, check Display as Icon.
  9. Click OK .
