Copying Information Between Windows

After you select text or graphics, the procedures for copying and pasting are the same in all Windows applications. To copy and paste information between windows of the same application, as well as between windows of different applications, follow these steps:

  1. Select the text or graphic you want to copy.
  2. Click the Copy button on the toolbar, or choose Edit, Copy. You can, alternatively, use a keyboard shortcut, such as Ctrl+C for copy. A copy of the selected material appears on the Clipboard; the original selection remains in place.
  3. Click to position the insertion point where you want to insert the selection. You can switch between document windows or between applications as you learned in Lesson 6, "Starting and Exiting Windows and Applications."
  4. Click the Paste button, choose Edit, Paste, or press Ctrl+V. Windows copies the selection from the Clipboard to the insertion point.
