Using the What's This? Feature

The What's This? feature of dialog boxes is a feature designed to supply a description of the options in a dialog box. For example, if a dialog box appears asking you to provide information in a text box and you aren't certain of the kind of information to supply, use the What's This? feature to help you.

The following steps tell you how to use the What's This? feature:

  1. Click the ? icon in the upper-right corner of the Windows dialog box. A large question mark appears next to the mouse pointer as shown in Figure 5.2.

Figure 5.2 The Mouse pointer changes to a question mark when you use the What's This? feature.

  2. Click any option in the dialog box, and Windows displays a box containing a short description of the item you selected (see Figure 5.3).

Figure 5.3 What's This? provides additional descriptions and help for dialog box options.

  3. When you finish reading the Help information, click anywhere on the screen to close the Help box.
