Replying to a Message

When you reply to a message you receive, Outlook Express automatically copies the text of the original message into your reply. Each line of this text is marked with a > symbol in front of it, so it is easily identified as the original text. You can delete this copied text if you don't want it in your reply.

Also, when you create a reply, it is automatically addressed to the sender of the original message. In addition, the subject of the original message becomes the subject of the reply, but with the word RE: preceding it.

To reply to a message, follow these steps:

  1. Click either the Reply (to reply to the sender of the message only) or the Reply to All (to reply to the sender and anyone who received a copy of the original message) button on the toolbar.
  2. Type your text above the text of the original message. If you want to delete any of the original text, select it and press Delete.
  3. Click Send , or if you wish to send the message later, open the File menu and select Send Later .
