Controlling the Print Job

It's hard to control just one or two print jobs because they usually are sent to the printer too quickly. However, if there are several jobs in the print queue, you can control them. For example, you can pause and resume print jobs, and you can delete a job before it prints.

Additionally, you can control the printer or just one particular document. You can, for example, cancel one document or all documents in the queue.

Pausing and Resuming the Queue

You may want to pause the queue and then resume printing later if, for example, the paper in the printer is misaligned or the printer is using the wrong color paper. Pausing the print queue gives you time to correct the problem. To pause the print queue, choose Printer, Pause Printing. You can also right-click the document and select Pause . To resume printing, choose Printer, Pause Printing a second time to remove the check mark beside the command. If you only want to hold up the printing on one document in the queue, select that document and choose Document, Pause.

Deleting a Print Job

Sometimes you'll send a document to the printer and then change your mind. For example, you may think of additional text to add to a document or realize you forgot to check your spelling. In such a case, deleting the print job is easy, if you can catch it in time.

To delete a print job, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Print queue by choosing Settings , Printers from the Start menu; double-click the printer icon.
  2. Select the job you want to delete.
  3. Choose Document, Cancel.
