Q&A

1. What is the difference between the Internet and an intranet?

   The Internet provides connections for the public to information reservoirs by using a Web interface. An intranet also uses a Web interface, but only internal access is allowed, such as to company employees and privileged customers.

2. Is a back-end database for a Web application any different than a back-end database for a client/server system?

   The back-end database itself for a Web application is not necessarily any different than that of a client/server system. However, there are other requirements that must be met to implement a Web-based application. For example, a Web server is used to access the database with a Web application. With a Web application, end users do not typically connect directly to the database.
