Timer Miscellanea

Last updated Jan 1, 2004.

System timers and Windows Forms timers implement Start and Stop methods that enable and disable the timer. You can call these methods rather than setting the Enabled property.

All three timer types make use of system resources that should be released when the timer is destroyed. If you use Visual Studio to create a Windows Forms timer or a system timer, then the code to dispose those objects is automatically created. However, if you write code that instantiates one of these timer types, you should be careful to call Dispose to free the system resources when you are done with the timer. Failing to do so could result in your running out of resources.
